"Acid" is a generic label for a food-additive class, not one specific ingredient, so its safety depends on which acid is actually used.
Food labels sometimes list "acidifier" or "acid" as a functional category instead of naming the exact compound. This could mean citric acid, lactic acid, phosphoric acid, malic acid, or many others - each with a different safety profile. Without knowing the specific substance, a real risk assessment isn't possible.

Why it matters
In food, "acid" or "acidulant" (acidificante in Spanish) is a functional class name, like "preservative" or "colour". It describes what an ingredient does - make food more sour or adjust pH to help preserve it or balance flavour - rather than naming the exact chemical. Dozens of different acids are used this way in food: citric acid (from citrus fruit), acetic acid (vinegar), lactic acid (fermentation), malic acid (apples), tartaric acid (grapes), and phosphoric acid (common in colas), among others. Some are essentially harmless at food-use levels; a few, like phosphoric acid, have tighter intake limits.
