Carbonated water

Carbonated water is plain water with CO2 gas dissolved in it under pressure, which creates fizz and a mildly acidic taste. It has no meaningful toxicity at normal drinking levels and is used worldwide as a beverage base.

Why it matters
Carbonated water is water (H2O) with carbon dioxide (CO2) gas dissolved into it under pressure. When you open the bottle or can, the gas escapes as bubbles, giving the fizzy feeling and slightly tangy taste. It's used in sodas, sparkling water, and mixed drinks mainly for texture and flavor, not as a preservative or functional additive. The body handles the CO2 easily: some is burped out, some is absorbed and exhaled through the lungs, just like the CO2 you produce breathing. No one needs to specifically worry about this ingredient itself.
