Oat flakes
Oat flakes are a nutritious whole grain, safe for almost everyone except people with celiac disease or an oat allergy.
Oat flakes are rolled or crushed oat grains, used as a food ingredient for texture, fibre, and nutrition. They are naturally gluten-free but often cross-contaminated with wheat, barley, or rye during farming or processing, so people with celiac disease need 'gluten-free' certified oats. A small number of people are specifically allergic to oat proteins.

Why it matters
Oat flakes are just oats that have been steamed and rolled flat, used in cereals, drinks, granola, and baked goods. They add fibre (including beta-glucan, linked to lower cholesterol), protein, and a creamy texture. For most people they're simply food - not an additive with a toxicological profile. The 'allergen' label exists because oats are one of the cereals people can react to, either through celiac-like gluten sensitivity (from contamination) or a true oat protein allergy, which is separate and rarer.
