Natural vanilla flavouring
A common food flavouring made from vanilla; safe to eat for almost everyone.
Natural vanilla flavouring is extracted from vanilla beans or made from natural sources and used to add vanilla taste and smell to food. It has a long history of safe use and is not linked to harm at normal food amounts, though rare allergic reactions are possible.

Why it matters
Vanilla flavouring gives food its familiar sweet, warm smell and taste. It's used in tiny amounts in things like yoghurt, ice cream, baked goods and drinks. 'Natural' means it comes from vanilla beans or other natural sources, rather than being made purely by chemical synthesis (like synthetic vanillin). In the body it's treated like any other food flavour compound: absorbed, broken down by normal digestion, and not known to build up or cause problems at the levels used in food.
