Why it matters
Blackcurrant (Ribes nigrum) is a dark berry eaten fresh, dried, juiced, or used as a flavour and colour source in jams, syrups, yogurts, sweets, and drinks. It's naturally rich in vitamin C, potassium, and plant pigments called anthocyanins, which give it its deep purple-black colour. For almost everyone, it's simply a nutritious fruit, not a substance to worry about.
