Soap ('savon') is a mild cleanser, generally safe on skin but can irritate eyes and is not meant to be swallowed.
Savon is simply the French word for soap, a mixture of fatty acids and alkali used to clean skin, dishes, or surfaces. It's one of the oldest and best-studied cleaning agents, safe for normal household and body use, though concentrated or undiluted soap can irritate eyes and mucous membranes, and swallowing large amounts can upset the stomach.

Why it matters
Soap is made by reacting fats or oils with an alkali (like sodium or potassium hydroxide) in a process called saponification. The resulting molecules have one end that binds to water and one end that binds to grease, which lets soap lift dirt and oil off skin, dishes, or surfaces so water can rinse it away. It's used in bar soaps, dish soap, laundry soap, and many household cleaners. For most healthy people, soap is not a safety concern - it's a basic hygiene product used daily worldwide.
