Decyl oleate
A skin-conditioning oil used in cosmetics, generally considered safe with very low irritation potential.
Decyl oleate is a synthetic ester (made from decyl alcohol and oleic acid) used as an emollient in lotions, makeup and hair products to soften skin and improve texture. It has a long history of cosmetic use with no significant safety concerns identified, though like any oil it can occasionally clog pores or trigger mild irritation in sensitive individuals.

Why it matters
Decyl oleate is an ester - a molecule made by combining a fatty alcohol (decyl alcohol) with a fatty acid (oleic acid). It's used purely as a functional ingredient: it acts as an emollient (skin softener) and lubricant in creams, lotions, sunscreens, makeup and hair products. It doesn't do anything to the body beyond sitting on the skin's surface and improving how a product feels and spreads. Most people don't need to think about it at all; it's one of many similar 'ester oils' used interchangeably in formulas.
