Sostanze minerali
A generic label for added minerals in pet food, not a specific harmful substance.
"Sostanze minerali" is Italian for "mineral substances," a catch-all term used on pet food labels for the mineral premix (like calcium, phosphorus, zinc, or iron compounds) added to meet a pet's nutritional needs. On its own this isn't a single chemical to evaluate — it's a category, and its safety depends on which minerals are used and in what amounts, which are set by animal feed regulations.

Why it matters
Pet foods need added minerals because processing (cooking, extrusion) and the base ingredients often don't supply enough calcium, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, copper, iodine, and other minerals for a complete diet. "Sostanze minerali" is a label shorthand — common in EU pet food ingredient lists — that groups these additions together instead of listing each one. It's not itself a toxin; it's a functional category, like saying "vitamins" instead of naming each vitamin.
