Cocoa paste
Also known as: cocoa mass
Just ground cocoa beans - a normal food ingredient, not a chemical additive.
Cocoa paste (also called cocoa mass) is made by grinding roasted cocoa beans into a thick paste. It's the base for chocolate and has been eaten safely for centuries. It contains natural stimulants like caffeine and theobromine, so only moderation for specific sensitive groups matters.
Why it matters
Cocoa paste is simply roasted cocoa beans ground into a smooth, semi-solid mass. It's not a manufactured additive - it's a whole-food ingredient used to make chocolate, cocoa powder, and cocoa butter. In the body, it acts like a food: it provides fat, fiber, minerals, and plant compounds called flavanols, plus small amounts of natural stimulants (caffeine and theobromine). Almost nobody needs to specifically worry about it, aside from people who are allergic to cocoa (rare) or who need to limit caffeine/theobromine intake.
