Pineapple
Also known as: ananas
A fruit - nutritious and safe for almost everyone in normal amounts.
Pineapple is a whole food rich in vitamin C, manganese, and the enzyme bromelain. It's safe to eat in normal dietary amounts and offers real nutritional benefits, though a small number of people have allergies or mouth irritation from its enzymes.
Why it matters
Pineapple is a tropical fruit eaten fresh, dried, canned, or juiced. It contains vitamin C, manganese, fiber, and bromelain, an enzyme that breaks down protein (this is why raw pineapple can make your mouth or tongue feel slightly tingly or raw after eating a lot). Nutritionally it's considered a beneficial food, not a substance to be wary of. Almost no one needs to specifically limit pineapple for safety reasons, though people with a pineapple allergy or certain oral allergy syndromes (often linked to birch or grass pollen allergy) should be cautious.
